Our Services
At PNW Myofunctional Therapy, we believe that therapy is not a “one size fits all” approach and is something the patient needs to know going into the program. Everyone comes to us with a different concern, and therefore everyone has specific exercises and program created for them and their needs. Results are greatly attributed to what you do at home with the exercises and recommendations. Most of the dysfunction occurs over a period of time, thus it takes time to reverse the improper function and is not an overnight quick fix. There are different appliance modalities that can also be used in conjunction with therapy to get the best results. Myofunctional Therapy is a team approach.
We work closely with Dentists, ENT specialists, Orthodontists, Body workers, Lactation Consultants, Speech Language Pathologists and more. Depending on what type of treatment you are needing, we may need to refer you to one of the above practitioners.
Here at PNW Myofunctional Therapy, we try and make treatment as convenient as possible for our patients. We generally see patients online with many different video platforms. In-person sessions are also available as needed. Treatment starts with an assessment to evaluate your condition(s). This generally takes anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes. After that, treatment sessions will take place. Generally sessions occur every two weeks and progressively longer time in between sessions towards the end of treatment. Sessions generally take 30-45 minutes. This is a program and can take anywhere from 12-15 sessions, depending on how you respond to treatment and exercises. Compliance to treatment is the key to success!
Infants and Children
I am here to help with tongue ties, airway restriction and education with infants and children. If your little one is having a hard time latching during breastfeeding, Myofunctional Therapy is a great resource for you. Children that are struggling with open mouth posture, ADHD, bed wetting and problems concentrating a lot of times have underlying health conditions that one of my programs can help with.
Youth
If you notice your child is always tired and has a hard time staying up during school hours they may have an airway restriction. A long looking face, dark circles under their eyes are common signs. If your child has had to get orthodontic treatment (braces) and have been told they have a tongue thrust, it is important to address this before an orthodontic relapse. The tongue and muscles of the face are so strong they can actually move teeth if not properly trained on correct placement, swallow and function. If a tongue thrust is present your tongue and face muscles are working against you, with the help of Myofunctional Therapy it can help those muscles work for you.
Adults
If you have been told you snore or are already aware that you have a form of sleep apnea, you know you are at risk for many health conditions due to loss of oxygen to the blood and major organs. Waking up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom repeatedly is a sign your body is trying to wake itself up due to loss of oxygen. Clenching and grinding is also another sign of possible airway restriction. Myofunctional Therapy can help you strengthen your muscles and retrain them proper rest position to help with any sleep disrupted breathing or obstructive sleep apnea.
